My first look at Las Vegas

I’ve been to Disneyland. I’ve been to Europe. There are tons of places I haven’t been. Why haven’t I ever been to Las Vegas before now?

With a nickname like “Sin City,” it wasn’t a place that sounded too inviting. I heard there were awesome sights. I heard about entertaining shows. The whole concept of legalized gambling and prostitution just didn’t appeal.

It isn’t the first time my husband has asked me to accompany him on a business trip to this famous city. He’s been to countless conferences and conventions in Vegas. So it’s not like this is my first opportunity.

I jumped at the chance for one reason: weather. I’m sick of the weeping gray skies of Oregon. I want to see a little blue. Force me to put on my sun glasses; I’m begging you.

My husband promises to take me to a good show while we’re there. I’ve already checked into a pedicure and a massage. There’s outlet shopping near the hotel.

All that sounds fun. Really. But it’s the pool that’s calling my name. Guess who has a sense of humor? The Great Weatherman in the sky.

The extended forecast for the desert says mostly cloudy skies with highs in the 60s. I’m up to my eyebrows in cloudy skies! In fact, I’m about to drown in them.

“It’s not going to rain.”

Small comfort that. So much for soaking in the sunshine and trying to OD on Vitamin D. This isn’t good news for my husband, either. The pool option costs nothing while the gray sky options – pricey.

I’ll be posting from Vegas this week. Look for pictures of what’s spectacular. Bask with me in the mostly cloudy skies. “You can still get a sunburn when it’s cloudy.” Yeah, whatever.

If you’ve been to Vegas, what is on your must see list? If you want to go to Vegas, tell me why.
